The organizational concept of this prototypical elementary school with a functionally separate 5 classroom nursery school was to create a community of educational spaces organized around a large courtyard covered by a triangular steel canopy distinguished by its open central oculus. The oculus re-occurs as an open void in the canopy, as a solid which contains the music room, as a raised surface exedra in the courtyard and the protective roof over the nursery school with its independent entrance and outdoor play areas.

The architectural synthesis, whose formal language incorporates the triangle, cube and rectilinear solids, was inspired by the Constructivist movement of the early 20th century.

Common areas and spaces such as the courtyard multi-purpose hall, library and recreation room are meant to be visibly and functionally accessible from the surrounding residential neighborhood of Makedonitissa.
